Red Bull Increases the Risk of Blood Clots...
14 May 2025
- Australian researchers warned on Saturday that consuming one can or bottle of Red Bull energy drink daily could increase the risk of heart disease and stroke, even in young people.
- The study stated that consuming a 250 ml can of this drink, which some describe as "giving you wings to fly," increases blood viscosity and exacerbates the risk of stroke.
- Cardiologist at the Royal Adelaide Hospital in Australia, researcher Dr. Scott Willoughby, said that "one hour after consuming Red Bull, the blood systems stop functioning normally."
- He added that these symptoms "can be expected in those with cardiovascular diseases."
- He noted that "if viscosity increases and vascular effects decrease, this further complicates the matter," pointing out that the situation becomes more dangerous if a person has high blood pressure or heart and vascular diseases.
- He said he felt "concerned" to the point of avoiding Red Bull for fear of its danger to him.
- This drink contains a high level of caffeine, as a standard can contains 80 milligrams of this substance.
- Its sale has been banned in countries such as Norway, Uruguay, and Denmark due to its potential health risks, but that did not prevent the manufacturer from selling approximately 3.5 billion cans and bottles in 143 countries worldwide last year.
