Small Breast Tumors May Require More Treatment...
4 February 2022
- American researchers said that small breast tumors that appeared to have been cured after surgery are highly likely to return if they are of the type known as "HER2-positive".
- Dr. Ana M. Gonzalez-Angulo from the Anderson Medical Cancer Center in Houston, who led the research team, said that women with these types of tumors may need additional treatment with drugs such as "Herceptin", noting that doctors typically do not treat small tumors with this drug.
- According to the study, 23% of patients with this type of tumor measuring one centimeter or smaller experienced tumor recurrence after surgery.
